Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deckhand to join our team at Carlsen Mooring & Marine Services LLC. As a Deckhand, you will play a critical role in the maintenance and operation of our vessels, ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of cargo and personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the loading and unloading of cargo, ensuring accurate and efficient operations
  • Deploy and recover spill boom equipment, maintaining a safe and secure environment
  • Store and maintain equipment used in vessel operations, adhering to strict safety protocols
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of vessel decks, ensuring a safe working environment
  • Participate in safety training and drills, staying up-to-date on the latest safety procedures and protocols
  • Assist with engine maintenance and repairs, ensuring the vessel is in good working condition
  • Stand watch for debris, depth, and distance, maintaining situational awareness at all times
  • Utilize, rig, inspect, and store cargo-handling gear and stationary rigging, ensuring safe and efficient operations
  • Load or unload materials from vessels, adhering to strict safety protocols
  • Handle lines to moor vessels to wharfs, tie up vessels to other vessels, or rig towing lines, ensuring safe and secure operations
  • Stand watch on bows or bridge wings to look for obstructions in the launch's path or to locate navigational aids such as buoys and lighthouses
  • Measure water depths as needed by the captain, ensuring accurate and efficient operations
  • Assist in emergency situations as required by the captain, staying calm and composed under pressure
  • Operate, maintain, and repair launch equipment, ensuring safe and efficient operations
  • Chip and clean rust spots on decks, superstructures, and sides of launches, maintaining a safe and secure environment

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 1-2 years of related experience
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC card and valid driver's license
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Physical stamina to perform tasks that require lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods

Working Conditions:

Outdoors and indoors, day and night, with frequent exposure to noise, vibration, and physical hazards. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.
