Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Groundskeeper Lead to join our team at UCSB/HUMAN RESOURCES. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of Grounds Equipment Operators in mechanized operations, including turf mowing, renovation, tree pruning and removal, bulky debris pickup, green waste pickup, seasonal weed abatement, equipment and supplies logistics, and cleaning and maintaining equipment used.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of Grounds Equipment Operators in mechanized operations
  • Operate and maintain a variety of landscape equipment, including ride-on mowers, tractors, backhoes, turf sweepers, aerial lifts, chainsaws, and handheld landscape equipment/tools
  • Perform work and lead crews in landscape installation and maintenance
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors
Requirements
  • 1-3 years of proven experience operating landscape equipment
  • 3-5 years of proven experience in a commercial landscaping organization
  • Demonstrated knowledge of plant care, safe equipment use, landscape irrigation principles, and horticultural pest control
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic and ability to contribute to a diverse team
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions, and communicate effectively in English
Special Conditions of Employment
  • Maintain a valid CA driver's license, a clean DMV record, and enrollment in the DMV Employer Pull-Notice Program
  • Satisfactory criminal history background check
  • UCSB is a Tobacco-Free environment
