Operations Overview: This position is integral to Blue Origin Operations, which encompasses Integrated Supply Chain, Facilities, and Security. This includes providing Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin locations.

As a key member of a dedicated and skilled team, you will play a vital role in bringing rocket engines into production. In your capacity as a Manufacturing Engineer, you will convert engineering specifications, drawings, and configurations into fully operational hardware prepared for testing, qualification, and flight. Throughout the manufacturing lifecycle, you will also pinpoint, develop, and implement strategies to enhance quality, minimize costs, and streamline build sequences and timelines. As a crucial part of the team, you will conduct Design for Manufacturing and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis studies to reinforce the feedback loop between design, production, and testing, thereby accelerating the pace of rocket engine innovation.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Create detailed manufacturing work instructions to define processes such as receiving inspection, fabrication, assembly, testing, integration, and refurbishment.
  • Effectively manage cost, quality, build sequence, and schedule of hardware throughout the entire manufacturing process.
  • Review engineering drawings and provide final approval for manufacturing activities.
  • Establish process control measures and evaluations through statistical analysis.
  • Support repair and rework initiatives.
  • Design, procure, install, and integrate specialized manufacturing equipment.
  • Collaborate with external suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure that hardware and equipment are produced, processed, packaged, and delivered accurately, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Conduct capacity analyses for manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Perform root cause analyses for non-conformances and implement corrective actions.
  • Design appropriate material handling and packaging solutions to safeguard hardware throughout the production and testing phases.
  • Oversee hardware configuration management and maintain pedigree throughout the entire build and test process.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in manufacturing and manufacturing engineering.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment supporting rapidly evolving design iterations.
  • Strong grasp of engineering principles related to mechanical design and manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and methodologies.
  • Proficient in interpreting engineering models, drawings, specifications, and test procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging effectively at all organizational levels.
  • Outstanding organizational, analytical, and project management abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Practical experience in hardware manufacturing processes (e.g., castings, forgings, additive manufacturing, welding, machining, non-destructive testing, and final acceptance testing).
  • Demonstrated success in completing manufacturing projects, including design for manufacturability and cycle time reduction.
  • Ability to foster trust, maintain positive relationships, and enhance our culture of inclusion.
