Job Title: Helpline Advocate

Join YWCA Central Massachusetts as a Helpline Advocate and make a meaningful impact in the lives of those affected by domestic violence.

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and empathetic individual to provide crisis counseling, guidance, and support to program participants through our 24-hour helpline and chat line. As a Helpline Advocate, you will assess participants' needs, provide referrals, and offer assistance in filing for restraining orders, injunctions, and other petitions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess participants' needs and provide empowerment-based crisis counseling, guidance, and emotional support.
  • Answer the crisis hotline and provide callers with information, referrals, and support.
  • Assist participants with the development and implementation of a safety plan.
  • Provide information on the dynamics of domestic violence and offer empowerment-based counseling in individual or group settings.
  • Support and advocate for victims at any stage in the criminal justice system.
  • Assist with filing for compensation claims and provide referrals to community resources.
  • Maintain and report statistical measurements as required.
  • Adhere to the Program's policies and procedures.
Requirements:
  • Two years minimum experience in domestic violence intervention and prevention preferred.
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish required.
  • Knowledge of domestic violence and related issues such as substance abuse and mental health.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with other professionals and team members.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and client confidentiality.
  • Empathetic, non-judgmental, and active listening skills.
  • Ability to assess and intervene in crisis situations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Organized; innovative.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Excellent computer skills required.
  • Valid Massachusetts driver's license.
