Job Title: Building Inspector

City of Oxford is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Inspector to join our team. As a Building Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring that all building construction and renovation projects in the City of Oxford meet the necessary safety and building codes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct regular building inspections to ensure compliance with City of Oxford Code of Ordinances and relevant building codes.
  • Enforce building codes and regulations, including construction site erosion matters.
  • Communicate effectively with citizens, contractors, and other stakeholders to resolve code-related issues.
  • Make interpretations of ICC building codes and ensure that building projects have necessary permits.
  • Coordinate with other departments, such as the Electrical Department, to ensure compliance with all applicable codes.
  • Answer code-related questions and provide guidance to citizens, architects, engineers, and developers.
  • Check erosion control measures for compliance and perform other duties as directed.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; at least 5 years of experience in a related field preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and knowledge of building, plumbing, mechanical, and/or electrical codes required.
  • Ability to obtain ICC certification in one of the construction inspection elements within six months of employment.
  • Ability to attain a minimum of one ICC inspection certification per year until the eight core certifications are acquired.
Working Conditions:

The Building Inspector works regular hours year-round with infrequent overtime and occasional night work. The position requires working in all types of weather conditions and involves physical work, including walking, standing, and climbing up and down ladders and stairs.
