About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Code Administrator to join our team at SAFEbuilt. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient delivery of privatized community development solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enforce and interpret building codes within the community, ensuring compliance through plan reviews and inspections.
  • Create and maintain policies and procedures for the Building Division, ensuring seamless operations.
  • Provide expert guidance to contractors, architects, building owners, and the public on the permitting process and code provisions.
  • Investigate and resolve complaints from citizens, contractors, architects, attorneys, and other stakeholders in a fair and timely manner.
  • Collaborate with Chief Inspectors to provide Florida Building Code interpretations and ensure accurate application.
  • Attend permitting, inspection, and plan review meetings to stay informed and provide expert input.
  • Conduct site visits to address code compliance issues, stop work orders, fire damage assessments, or verify project completion for Certificate of Occupancy issuance.
  • Oversee building inspectors' site visits and perform the duties of the Building Official in their absence.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and written communication using provided hardware and software systems and equipment.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Engineering, or Architecture, supplemented by seven to ten years of progressively responsible experience in building code administration, with five years' experience in High Velocity Hurricane Zones (HVHZ), including at least three years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Certification by the State of Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board (BCAIB) as a Building Code Administrator, with required certifications kept current.
  • Ability to obtain certification as a Building Official by BORA within ninety days of hire.
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) certification, or obtain within one year of employment.
  • Valid Florida driver's license with a satisfactory driving record throughout employment.
