Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing accurate and timely quantity take-offs and technical support to the estimating team to ensure successful project execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review project plans and specifications with the estimating team to determine specific take-off needs and ensure requirements are met.

  • Develop job quantity take-offs, including earthwork, grading, excavation, and structure excavation/backfill, to ensure accurate estimates and bids.

  • Review take-off data/summaries with the estimating team and develop/modify takeoff standard templates.

  • Manage estimate files, ensuring easy retrieval of information and transfer of information to project teams.

  • Develop and maintain a consistent practice/method of documentation (daily diary) and task tracking (to-do list) for oneself and estimate-related items.

  • Assist in coordinating the startup process in conformance with operational procedures, including project start-up checklists, project hand-off meetings, conforming HeavyBid estimates, and creating job budgets.

  • Work with the estimating and project teams to sequence project tasks and determine durations of tasks in preparing long-term and short-term schedules.

  • Research historical data and productivity analysis reports to compile summary reports for future estimates.

  • Utilize GPS files and models for project estimates, including AGTEK models, and coordinate with the construction team and survey chief in the transition of estimate models to build models.

  • Manage project files through Trimble Business Center and Agtek, and develop 3D models for use in estimating.

  • Coordinate and perform drone flights for estimate team use and QC/QA of 3D models for estimates and project teams.

  • Assist in complying with DBE requirements, perform good faith efforts and documentation, complete legal checklists (CUF's), and identify/anticipate changes to the contract.

  • Assist the estimating team with development and maintenance of subcontractor and material supplier vendor contact information.

  • May supervise, direct, mentor, and motivate other engineers, interns, or office assistants to ensure estimating standards are met and work is completed on time.

  • Take ownership of one's own development and participate in weekly safety meetings and inspections.

  • Understand construction quality control requirements for projects at bid time and environmental requirements, inspections, and testing for projects at bid time.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred, or equivalent combinations of technical training and related experience.

  • 0-2 years construction estimating support or similar experience.

  • Construction experience preferred.

  • Proficiency with MS Office products, AutoCad, AGTEK Take-off, Trimble Business Center, Bluebeam Take-off, HCSS HeavyJob, PlanGrid, and Primavera Scheduling software.

  • Knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawing and specifications, building materials, and required standards applicable to the discipline.

  • Ability to perform trigonometric calculations either manually or with a calculator.

  • Ability to assume responsibility, interface, and communicate effectively with others.

  • Thorough understanding and ability to perform all items outlined in Project Engineering and Controls (CELP-SM-002).

The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
