Job Summary

The Deputy Director of Investigations manages a team of Ethics and Compliance Professionals, providing policy and staffing recommendations to the Title IX/EEO Officer. The incumbent serves as a subject-matter expert on all related laws and regulations, as well as institutional policies and procedures. They lead activities related to audit, evaluation, correction, monitoring, review, and investigation to ensure consistent and quality institutional prevention and response to reports and issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a team of Ethics and Compliance Professionals
  • Provide policy and staffing recommendations to the Title IX/EEO Officer
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert on related laws and regulations
  • Lead activities related to audit, evaluation, correction, monitoring, review, and investigation
  • Ensure consistent and quality institutional prevention and response to reports and issues
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/training
  • Minimum of six years of related experience
  • Minimum of five years of management and supervisory experience
  • Expert knowledge of best practices and methodologies for conducting investigations
  • Expert knowledge of the complexities of sexual harassment in the post-secondary setting
  • Extensive experience investigating discrimination, sexual harassment, or other equivalently sensitive allegations
  • Ability to supervise and mentor professional staff who investigate sexual harassment and sexual violence
  • Ability to supervise support and professional analysis functions for compliance and ethics programs
  • Computer competency in basic Microsoft software programs and ability to learn and work proficiently within UC and UCSF-specific case management and document management applications
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills
  • Experience conducting investigations in the public sector, higher education, and/or healthcare settings
  • Comprehensive project management skills, including supervising the work of others, adhering to timelines, and achieving identified milestones
  • Expert knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations, case law, university policies, and guidance related to harassment, discrimination, sexual harassment, and sexual violence
  • Demonstrated skill, sensitivity, and experience interacting with constituents who are diverse in characteristics such as age, education level, race, gender identity and expression, ability, and socioeconomic backgrounds in a culturally humble manner
  • Demonstrated understanding of the relevance of trauma in the context of sexual violence and other forms of discrimination
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including abilities to communicate clearly, navigate difficult conversations and interactions, connect with a wide variety of audiences, and gain the trust of others in sensitive situations
  • Expert knowledge of the ethics and compliance profession, theories, and systems of internal control, and professional compliance and investigations standards
  • Comprehensive project management skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Ability to demonstrate professional judgment in the supervision of projects and staff
