Pulmonology Nurse Practitioner Job Description

At NYC Health + Hospitals, we are seeking a dedicated and experienced Pulmonology Nurse Practitioner to join our team. As a Pulmonology Nurse Practitioner, you will work collaboratively with pulmonologists and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care to patients with respiratory disorders and diseases.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients presenting with respiratory symptoms and conditions, including medical history reviews, physical examinations, and interpretation of diagnostic tests and imaging studies.
  • Collaborate with pulmonologists to develop individualized treatment plans for patients with acute and chronic respiratory diseases, such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, and interstitial lung disease, incorporating evidence-based guidelines and best practices.
  • Perform pulmonary function testing (PFT), including spirometry, lung volumes, and diffusion capacity, and interpret test results to assess lung function and diagnose respiratory disorders.
  • Provide education and counseling to patients and their families on respiratory health, disease management, medication adherence, inhaler techniques, smoking cessation, and environmental triggers to promote optimal lung function and improve quality of life.
  • Monitor patients' respiratory status and disease progression over time, adjusting treatment plans as needed to achieve optimal clinical outcomes and prevent exacerbations.
  • Coordinate care across healthcare settings and specialties, facilitating referrals to pulmonology specialists, respiratory therapy programs, and ancillary services as appropriate to address patients' holistic needs.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance the delivery of patient-centered care and promote continuous improvement in clinical practice.
Requirements:
  • A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse issued by the New York State Department of Education (NYSED); and
  • Current certificate as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the NYSED; and
  • Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
