Job SummaryThe Perfusionist reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate cardiopulmonary bypass and other life support equipment to assist cardiac, transplant, and vascular surgeons during surgical procedures.
- Monitor oxygenator and adjust gas flow as needed to ensure optimal patient care.
- Operate centrifugal and roller pumps to maintain adequate cardiac output and patient stability.
- Monitor blood temperature, O2, CO2, pH, venous saturation's, and adjust as needed to prevent complications.
- Monitor blood electrolytes, potassium, sodium, and calcium levels to ensure patient safety.
- Communicate with surgeons and anesthesiologists regarding any problems, unusual occurrences, or deviations from the norm that may affect the patient during surgery.
- Operate cell salvaging systems to retrieve, process, and return shed blood to the patient.
- Set up and operate intra-aortic balloon pumps and cardiac assist devices as needed.
- Assist medical personnel in the O.R. to facilitate better patient care and successful operation completion.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited perfusion school.
- CCP or board eligible.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science Degree.
