Job Title: Workers' Compensation and Extended Leave Specialist

Join the City of New York's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) as a Workers' Compensation and Extended Leave Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing workers' compensation leave of absence cases, ensuring adherence to state and local rules and regulations, and agency protocols, standards, policies, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process workers' compensation leave of absence cases, including generating and distributing bi-weekly/monthly reports using Microsoft Excel and other agency systems.
  • Administer and monitor workers' compensation sick leave grants and pay programs, ensuring compliance with grant criteria.
  • Partner with the NYC Office of Payroll Administration, the agency's Office of Labor Relations, Employee Discipline Unit, Timekeeping and Payroll units, as needed, regarding workers' compensation leave of absence cases.
  • Prepare and process managerial lump sum payments for separating managers.
  • Audit years of time usage for inaccuracies and make corrections as required.
Qualifications:
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, one year of which must have been in an administrative capacity or supervising staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty.
  • An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, including one year of administrative supervisory experience.
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and five years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, including one year of administrative supervisory experience.
