Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our team as a Staff Electrical Engineer - Substation. As a key member of our project team, you will be responsible for completing design and construction projects related to high voltage substations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create and modify single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control schematics, communication diagrams, wiring diagrams, cable lists, and relay panel arrangements.
  • Perform calculations such as DC battery sizing, AC load sizing, voltage drop, conduit fill, and control cable sizing.
  • Create and modify technical specifications for major equipment, such as power transformers, power circuit breakers, control enclosures, and other related high-voltage materials.
  • Coordinate with and provide technical assistance to SCADA engineers, substation physical engineers, and P&C design staff.
  • Apply field mark-ups of project as-built drawings.
  • Assist with client communication and manufacturer drawing reviews.
  • Research solutions to project concerns; analyze and recommend solutions to problems.
  • Communicate and coordinate project activities with project manager and others as needed.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced team members.
Physical Design Responsibilities
  • Prepare and create general arrangements, sections and electrical details, yard layouts, and bill of materials.
  • Create and modify technical specifications for major equipment, such as power transformers, power circuit breakers, control enclosures, and other related high-voltage materials.
  • Perform calculations such as lightning protection, grounding analysis, and lighting plans.
  • Coordinate with and provide technical assistance to P&C, civil, structural, and transmission line engineers.
  • Apply field mark-ups of project as-built drawings.
  • Assist with client communication and manufacturer drawing reviews.
  • Research solutions to project concerns; analyze and recommend solutions to problems.
  • Communicate and coordinate project activities with project manager and others as needed.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced team members.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
  • Or Bachelor of Science in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Strong knowledge of AC/DC fundamentals, including understanding of three-phase power systems.
  • Knowledge of basic protection principles and practices for transmission lines, distribution feeders, and major substation equipment.
  • Familiarity with microprocessor based protection and control systems with the ability to understand one-lines and control schematics.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes and standards such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, NEMA, and ANSI.
  • Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering may be substituted for 1 year experience.
  • 3 years of electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred.
  • Successful completion (i.e. passing) FE or EIT, or PE, preferred.
  • Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
