Position Purpose:

The Department of Physics, Geology, and Engineering Technology is establishing a pool of qualified adjunct faculty to teach courses in physics or astronomy. This posting is intended to create a database of potential instructors rather than filling a specific vacancy.


Key Responsibilities:

Teaching duties encompass:

  • Laboratory Instruction: (1) Develop a syllabus and lab schedule in collaboration with the course coordinator and lecture instructor, (2) Prepare lab equipment prior to and dismantle it post-class, (3) Supervise and assist students during lab sessions, (4) Evaluate student submissions, and (5) Record grades in the Canvas learning management system.
  • Lecture Instruction: (1) Formulate a syllabus and schedule that aligns with course objectives in consultation with the course coordinator and program director, (2) Coordinate with lab instructors regarding lab schedules and grading criteria, (3) Conduct classes as per the timetable, (4) Assign and assess homework, (5) Create and grade examinations, (6) Utilize the Canvas learning management system, and (7) Maintain attendance records and submit mid-term and final grades punctually.
  • Availability: Instructors must be accessible for at least one hour per week outside of scheduled class times to address student inquiries.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess the following minimum educational qualifications:

  • Master's degree
  • A minimum of 18 credit hours in physics or astronomy coursework, or equivalent professional experience

All candidates selected for this position will be required to undergo a pre-employment criminal background check as mandated by state law.
