Lifeguard Job Description

Reports to: Aquatics Supervisor/Assistant General Manager

Role Overview:

The lifeguard plays a crucial role in safeguarding the well-being of patrons and students in and around the aquatic environment, as well as preventing and addressing emergencies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain vigilant observation of patrons in the pool area; respond promptly and effectively to ensure the safety of customers during emergencies.
  • Administer emergency care and treatment as necessary until emergency medical services arrive.
  • Document and maintain accurate incident reports.
  • Exhibit a professional demeanor and maintain high standards of customer service at all times.
  • Perform various tasks as assigned to uphold a clean and safe facility.
  • Ensure the pool area is consistently supervised and attended in accordance with American Red Cross standards.
Additional Responsibilities: Undertake other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Maintain and uphold Lifeguard certification, along with Red Cross CPR/AED certification for adults, infants, and swimmers.
  • Prior experience in swim instruction is essential.
  • Must successfully complete all lifeguarding prerequisites as per American Red Cross standards.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 75lbs is required.
  • Refer to the Lifeguard Job Description for further requirements while serving as a deck supervisor.
Uniform Requirements: Lifeguards are expected to wear SafeSplash uniforms, which consist of a white SafeSplash Lifeguard t-shirt and royal blue shorts. SafeSplash Swim School will provide one (1) t-shirt annually per employee. Additional uniforms must be purchased by the employee at or below cost. Uniforms must be kept clean and professional. Supervisors may require the purchase of an additional uniform if deemed inappropriate. Lifeguards must wear their uniform during assigned hours; failure to do so may result in being sent home without pay.

Work Hours: 3-30 hours per week

Compensation: Commensurate with experience and skills
