Position Overview

The Geriatric Care Assistant plays a vital role in providing compassionate support to elderly residents, facilitating their daily living activities and personal care needs. This position involves assisting with mobility, nutrition, hygiene, and dressing, as well as managing and operating medical devices such as wheelchairs and oxygen equipment. The Care Assistant is responsible for monitoring the physical and emotional well-being of residents, taking vital signs, and handling specimens as necessary. They also ensure the comfort of residents, respond to their needs, and assist medical and nursing personnel in various tasks and emergencies.

Primary Duties:

  • Aid residents in daily activities including mobility, eating, bathing, and dressing.
  • Operate and assist with medical apparatus, such as wheelchairs and oxygen delivery systems.
  • Observe and report on residents' physical and mental conditions, including taking vital signs and managing specimens.
  • Effectively communicate with residents, families, and healthcare staff, documenting and addressing concerns and requests.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation in resident areas, including changing linens and managing medical supplies.
  • Assist nursing staff with medical tasks and post-operative care while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Engage in training and collaborative meetings for patient care planning and professional development.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid CNA certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Open to newly licensed candidates
  • Experience in geriatric or long-term care environments is preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and clinical practices
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Capacity to work autonomously and collaboratively
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
