Overview:
Under the direct guidance of a registered or licensed professional, this role involves delivering direct patient care within the realms of radiology and cardiology. The position supports the department in providing exceptional care to patients.
Responsibilities include observing and executing proficient examinations, scans, and procedures in accordance with established departmental policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
- Engages with patients, medical staff, and colleagues in alignment with the Methodist Mode of Care and Conduct.
- Collaborates in planning and organizing tasks as a team member, delivering diverse care often in high-pressure situations alongside nurses, technologists, and physicians.
- Gathers relevant patient history and educates patients and their families regarding examinations, scans, or procedures as necessary.
- Assists medical professionals in preparing rooms for scanning and specialized procedures.
- Observes and conducts proficient tests, scans, or procedures under the supervision of a licensed professional, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed.
- Operates specialized equipment and employs appropriate techniques to achieve optimal quality under the direction of a preceptor.
- Adheres to all safety protocols when utilizing equipment and practices sterile techniques as required, assisting physicians during procedures.
- Facilitates the transport of patients to and from designated areas and prepares them for examinations, scans, or procedures.
- Follows post-processing procedures for images under the guidance of a preceptor and assists in acquiring urgent readings when necessary.
- Acquires knowledge of patient processing through hospital and radiology information systems, including proper use of the PACS system under supervision.
- Maintains a clean and well-stocked work area, ensuring rooms are prepared for daily operations and reporting any supply shortages.
- Answers departmental calls as needed, assisting in communication between patients, nurses, and physicians.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- Prepares sterile trays and readies patients for diagnostic procedures using sterile techniques under the direction of a registered technologist.
- Ensures a clean, well-stocked, and safe working environment, testing equipment prior to use.
- Follows universal precautions and assists in ensuring compliance among colleagues and medical staff.
- Operates specialized radiographic equipment for angiographic imaging, utilizing necessary techniques to produce high-quality images.
- Adheres to procedures for post-processing images.
- Implements radiation safety protocols when working with radiation-producing equipment under the supervision of a registered technologist or nurse.
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Familiarity with radiology treatment modalities and related equipment is essential. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required, along with the ability to present oneself in a professional manner. High levels of discretion, integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism are expected.
Demonstrated logical problem-solving skills within a hospital environment while adhering to established policies and procedures are necessary.
The ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced setting, with flexibility to meet unexpected demands, is crucial.
Willingness to work flexible shifts and exercise sound judgment during emergencies is required.
Education:All post-secondary education must be from an accredited college or university.
Other relevant majors or courses may be considered as meeting these educational requirements, provided they relate closely to the essential functions of the position.
Additional education or experience may substitute for specific requirements, provided it does not conflict with state or board certification/license standards.Experience:

Certifications and Licensures:
Required certifications include CPR – Basic Life Support and an Indiana Radiology Student License for externs working in radiation areas, excluding ultrasound externs.
