Job Description

This is a challenging opportunity to join the Internal Revenue Service as an IT Security Specialist. The selected candidate will be responsible for leading the implementation of security programs designed to anticipate, assess, and minimize system vulnerabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reviewing proposed new systems, networks, and software designs for potential security risks and recommending mitigation or countermeasures.
  • Providing authoritative advice to other specialists in disaster recovery, business continuity, and operating systems security.
  • Developing and implementing IRS-wide guidelines for IT security.
  • Developing contingency plans to ensure availability and accessibility of network resources in the event of emergencies.
  • Developing long-range plans for IT security systems that anticipate, identify, evaluate, mitigate, and minimize risks associated with IT systems vulnerabilities.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Qualifications include one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service.
  • Experience must include Information Technology (IT) related experience that demonstrates each of the four competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving.
Education

A college or university degree is generally required. Foreign education may be used to meet the requirements if it has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs.

Additional Information

A 1-year probationary period is required. The selected candidate will be required to undergo a background investigation and obtain a High Risk Security Clearance. The position is eligible for a recruitment incentive of $1,000 and requires a one-year service agreement.
