Job Summary

This position is located in the Diagnostic Imaging Department at the Rosebud Service Unit in Rosebud, South Dakota. The purpose of the position is to serve as the supervisor of the department, providing management oversight and direction of the imaging services provided.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plans and revises work schedules, including regular tour of duty, overtime, and work to all radiology personnel in an efficient and equitable manner to achieve satisfactory quantity and quality of work output.
  • Develops strong inter-department teamwork to meet the needs of patients and physicians and drive decision making and other actions.
  • Plans, directs, and implements the day-to-day operations of the department in accordance with IHS policy, accreditation, FDA, and legislative requirements to meet the overall goals of the service unit and provide the best possible environment for patient care.
  • Collects and compiles radiological data for workload, planning, and budgetary purposes for use by the Clinical Director, Chief Executive Officer, and Great Plains Area Office.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part-time experience.

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75.

Essentially, they must (1) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field.

The following meet these requirements:

  • Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others.
  • Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided that such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence as determined by OPM or the employing agency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

GS-10: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 grade level.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:

  • GS-10: Manages day-to-day systems operations both centralized and peripheral equipment; manages the picture archiving system; manages the Radiology package in RPMS and EHR; prepares schedules for completion of work; develops trainings and career development; develops policies and procedures; assists with budget and developing contracts and procurement; maintains accurate and complete records ensuring that the required imaging data entry is performed.

Selective Placement Factor # 1: Knowledge of Imaging/Xray studies for physicians/providers to use in diagnosis and treatment of patients as evidenced by possession of a current unrestricted American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (AART) certification.

Selective Placement Factor # 2: Professional knowledge to effectively operate Computer Tomography (CT) equipment as evidence by possession of licensure or registration and certification in radiography and documented training on the provision of diagnostic CT exams.

Time In Grade (Merit Promotion Candidates Only)

Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements:

Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level.

Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Per IHS policy (SGM IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption.
