Position Overview: As a crucial member of the Marine Corps Defense Services Organization (DSO), you will collaborate with judge advocates and legal practitioners to ensure the effective delivery of criminal defense services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert guidance on litigation across the DSO, including specialized training and consultations for complex cases such as sexual assault.
  • Support trial defense counsel in all facets of case preparation, including motion drafting, expert witness preparation, and trial strategy development.
  • Assist the Chief Defense Counsel in evaluating and resourcing requirements to maintain high standards of representation.
  • Demonstrate extensive expertise in military justice or complex civilian criminal litigation as a trial-level attorney.
  • Exhibit advanced proficiency in delivering authoritative legal advice and training in multifaceted criminal litigation.

Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and suitable for federal employment.
  • Participation in the direct deposit pay program is mandatory.
  • New employees must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Retired military members must adhere to specific provisions regarding civilian positions.
  • Registration for Selective Service is required for males born after a certain date.
  • Obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance prior to starting the position.

  • Possession of a current Attorney license is required.
  • Willingness to travel to various locations, including remote sites, is essential.

Qualifications:

Your resume should reflect at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in federal service or comparable experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must include:

  • Expertise in litigation and support for trial defense counsel.
  • Comprehensive experience in trial preparation and advanced trial strategies.
  • Multi-disciplinary representation capabilities.

Education: A J.D. or LL.B from an ABA-accredited law school is required. Active membership in good standing with the bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. Commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia is also necessary.

Additional Information: This position may allow for part-time or telework options at management's discretion. Relocation expenses may be considered but are not guaranteed. The successful candidate must maintain professional qualifications at all times as a condition of employment.
