Join our team as a Special Education Bus Attendant, providing essential support to students with special needs. This role requires patience, composure, and effective communication skills.
About the Job
We are seeking a qualified candidate to ride an assigned bus, ensuring students' safety and well-being during transit. The successful applicant will instruct and reinforce appropriate bus riding behaviors, implementing specific behavioral modification programs as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ride an assigned bus, sitting with students to and from school, and escorting them safely between the bus and classroom
- Instruct and reinforce appropriate bus riding behaviors, including rules for safety and good manners
- Implement specific behavioral objectives with individual students to promote positive behavior on the bus
- Chart students' performances on the bus for report to parents and teachers
- Perform bus cleaning and inspection duties, such as washing windows and cleaning seating surfaces
Requirements and Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience working with children in an unstructured group setting (preferred)
- Sufficient human relations skills to achieve harmony with a small group of children
- The ability to perform basic record-keeping duties
- TB test clearance, criminal justice fingerprint clearance, and valid ARC first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation certificate
Physical Demands
This role requires:
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling items up to 100 pounds with a strength factor of moderately heavy work
- Frequent bending at the waist and kneeling, squatting, or crouching
- Finger dexterity to fasten harnesses and seat belts, and secure wheelchairs to the bus
- Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the radio
- Reaching, pulling, and pushing to operate bus doors
- Lifting moderately heavy objects
- Maintaining balance while standing on the bus during motion, starting, or stopping
- Seeing to read various materials and assist students
- Possessing strength and physical dexterity to pull children from the bus in case of an accident
- Climbing a minimum of 5 steps to enter and exit the school bus
Educational Requirements
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Previous experience working with children in an unstructured group setting is preferred.
Salary Information
The estimated salary range for this role is $27 per hour. We offer competitive compensation and benefits packages to attract top talent.
