Job Overview / Key Responsibilities:

CHILD CARE EDUCATOR M-F hours/day

The Child Care Educator operates under the guidance of the Child Care Director and is subject to evaluation by the same. This role involves planning and executing the objectives of the child care program in various positive manners. Candidates must undergo fingerprint clearance and TB testing.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
    • High School diploma or equivalent, along with 12 semester units in Early Childhood Education (6 units in Elementary, Physical, or Recreational Education may substitute for 6 units of ECE)
    • Minimum of one year of experience in a school-age child care setting
  • Knowledge of:
    • English language proficiency in both written and verbal forms, including correct grammar and vocabulary
    • Skills necessary for effective interaction with school-age children and their families
  • Ability to:
    • Bilingual capabilities in English and Spanish are desirable
    • Exhibit sound judgment, discretion, and maintain confidentiality
    • Demonstrate good mental, emotional, and physical health
    • Present a neat and professional appearance
  • ADA Requirement:
    • Meet the physical demands necessary to safely and effectively perform assigned duties, including the ability to lift thirty (30) pounds occasionally and more than thirty (30) pounds with assistance
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate with the director to establish program goals and objectives, then design and implement daily activities for students
  • Engage with students, motivate performance, monitor progress, and address instructional needs as they arise
  • Share insights with the director and, when necessary, discuss student progress with parents
  • Limit observations to the school environment and maintain confidentiality regarding children's behavior
  • Provide input and enforce procedures to manage inappropriate behavior among children
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of children in the program
  • Assist in maintaining accurate attendance records
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development as required
  • Prepare classroom activities by organizing materials, procuring supplies, and setting up necessary equipment
  • Help maintain the organization and cleanliness of program areas, including cleaning tables and storing materials
  • Report any injuries sustained by children to the director
  • Supervise assistants and volunteers in the absence of the director
  • Adhere to the accepted principles, practices, rules, and regulations of the district
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
