Job Title: Adapted Physical Education Teacher

This is a long-term substitute position for an Adapted Physical Education Teacher. As a substitute teacher, you will be hired on a per diem basis, even for long-term assignments. Please note that all substitute teachers begin at the per diem rate of pay.

Job Summary:

Adapted Physical Education Teachers provide physical education to students with severe disabilities, enabling them to access the BPS curriculum and participate safely in school and community life. The ideal candidate will have a Master's or Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, a Master's degree or advanced credentials in Moderate or Severe Special Needs, and Massachusetts licenses in Physical Education and Moderate or Severe Special Needs.

Responsibilities:
  1. Evaluation:
    • Adapted Physical Education Teachers will assess students referred for evaluation using appropriate testing instruments.
    • They will write reports reflecting the results of standardized tests and observations, providing clear recommendations.
    • Evaluations will be conducted within state and federal timelines.
  2. Adapted Physical Education Services:
    • Direct Adapted Physical Education and consultation services will be provided to students based on individual needs and IEP or 504 Plans.
    • Services will be delivered in the least restrictive setting.
    • Adapted Physical Education Teachers will participate in pre-referral, Team Meeting, and Student Support Team activities, providing professional development to school-based staff as requested.
    • They will consult with Related Services providers, teachers, and parents to provide effective services in various settings.
  3. General Responsibilities:
    • Adapted Physical Education Teachers must comply with state regulations regarding Teacher Certification renewal.
    • They are expected to develop, update, and adhere to daily and weekly schedules, providing a copy to each school's principal.
    • Teachers must comply with BPS rules, policies, and procedures, as well as those of their assigned schools and Unified Student Services.
    • They must maintain records of prior planning or lessons, keep therapy notes for each child and therapy session, and maintain accurate records of student attendance.
