Job Overview

Position Summary

The Facility Maintenance Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the upkeep and functionality of the building. This position involves executing routine maintenance tasks across various domains, including carpentry, electrical systems, HVAC, plumbing, and more. The role encompasses general cleaning duties and other responsibilities as assigned. This is a full-time, non-exempt hourly position, which includes rotating on-call hours. The Facility Maintenance Specialist reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform janitorial duties within the facility, including basic plumbing repairs, electrical tasks, light bulb replacements, waste removal, equipment maintenance, and floor care.
  • Collaborate with team members to prepare rooms for new occupants, including painting, remodeling, and refurbishing as necessary.
  • Maintain the exterior of the property and surrounding grounds, which includes landscaping, mowing, and snow removal.
  • Oversee the maintenance of outdoor equipment and vehicles.
  • Assist the Maintenance Supervisor in managing heating and cooling systems, as well as fire protection and alarm systems, including regular air filter changes for HVAC.
  • Provide transportation for individuals to medical appointments, clinics, and outings as required.
  • Support the Maintenance Supervisor with various special projects and seasonal activities throughout the year.
  • May lead projects and oversee maintenance personnel as needed.
  • Familiarize oneself with fire and disaster plans for all areas of the property, assisting in conducting drills as necessary.
  • Demonstrate reliability by consistently reporting to work on time and prepared for duties.
  • Report any work-related accidents or injuries to the supervisor or business office immediately, ensuring safety at all times.
  • Exhibit respect and consideration for the dignity of all residents, families, visitors, and colleagues to maintain a professional and courteous environment.
  • Honor the privacy rights of residents and co-workers, ensuring cultural differences are acknowledged and respected.
  • Promote effective teamwork and collaboration to help Bethel Lutheran Home achieve its goals and objectives.
  • Participate in all required safety training programs and understand responsibilities related to safety and job-specific hazards.
  • Adhere to exposure control plans for bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
  • Perform additional work-related duties as assigned.
  • Maintain punctuality and attendance as observed by management and peers.

Education & Training Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
  • Vocational training in plumbing, HVAC, electrical work, or carpentry is preferred. A creative approach to adapting programs and supplies to meet individual resident needs is beneficial.

Work Experience Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, and carpentry is essential.
  • Experience in a maintenance role, particularly in facility maintenance or long-term care settings, is required.
  • Familiarity with local building codes and OSHA regulations, as well as current health and safety standards, is necessary.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be a self-motivated individual who can effectively interact with people at all levels within and outside the facility.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on customer service, are essential.
  • Organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask are required.
  • Capability to adapt to changing priorities and situations is important.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the English language is necessary.

Physical & Mental Requirements

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to communicate verbally and listen.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds.
  • Regularly required to bend, kneel, squat, twist, or climb.
  • Moderate concentration and intensity are required, including prolonged mental effort with limited breaks.
  • Normal memory capacity is expected, considering the amount and type of information.
  • Must possess adequate eyesight and hearing to operate vehicles and equipment safely.
  • A valid driver's license is required at all times.
  • Moderate complexity in decision-making is expected.

Compensation - Based on Experience: $18.00+
