Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for coordinating and executing engineering modifications, enhancing processes, and introducing new HVAC products. This role involves collaboration with both Manufacturing and Engineering teams to improve quality and productivity by minimizing defects and addressing bottlenecks throughout various stages including Order Entry, Production Release, Fabrication, Welding, Assembly, and Field Installation.

This position serves as a critical link between Manufacturing and Engineering, focusing on identifying opportunities and implementing strategies to decrease variances in Bill of Material and Labor from estimates to actuals through thorough manufacturing process audits and supplier evaluations.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as the primary contact for engineering and technical inquiries.
  • Support Engineering teams based on workload demands.
  • Coordinate efforts to assess and resolve production-related engineering challenges.
  • Review engineering specifications and orders to stay updated on manufacturing methods and procedures.
  • Collaborate with Production to ensure that released AHU or ARU systems are equipped with comprehensive BOMs and routing.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and facilitate the correction of any identified errors during manufacturing.
  • Inspect and test components for compliance with engineering design specifications.
  • Consult with project engineers for specialized information as needed.
  • Analyze findings to develop corrective action plans and oversee their implementation.
  • Maintain records or supervise the documentation of engineering drawings and production issues.
  • Apply knowledge of HVAC unit components in accordance with industry standards and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Read and interpret plans and specifications, comparing them to accepted scopes across all divisions.
  • Assist in the preparation of submittals for various divisions.
  • Coordinate project timelines with sales, control/electrical engineering, detailing, and production teams.
  • Utilize company software and IT systems to manage project documentation and facilitate interdepartmental coordination.
  • Manage project schedules, including organizing and participating in kick-off meetings for major projects post-order.
  • Ensure vendor diversity to mitigate risks, aiming for a distribution of 70%/20%/10% annually.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with existing and potential vendors for key components and systems.
  • Evaluate and assess the performance and reliability of critical components and systems as necessary.
  • Notify Management of any changes in vendor, material, or labor rates to uphold the integrity of the costing program.
  • Review fabrication drawings for compliance with Record Submittals.
  • Proactively engage management regarding backlog projects during anticipated production slow periods.
  • Oversee New Product Development (NPD) projects from feasibility analysis through to production prototyping, participating in all relevant NPD meetings.
  • Assist Sales Engineering with specialized applications and pricing for non-standard applications.
  • Support Customer Service with parts orders and warranty-related inquiries.
  • Foster positive relationships with Factory Representatives, Engineers, Vendors, and other relevant contacts.
  • Uphold the company’s interests while nurturing strong relationships with all customer types, including internal team members.
  • Contribute to the achievement of annual engineering objectives for the division.
  • Review personal goals with the Manager and create milestone schedules for assigned projects, reporting on progress at agreed intervals.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to work collaboratively in a team environment, with flexibility to take on additional roles as needed.
  • Assume extra project responsibilities based on the company's requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in the Manufacturing sector.
  • Strong knowledge of custom build and lean manufacturing principles, including process flow, equipment layout, and ergonomics.
  • Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing processes across various departments.
  • Proficient in CAD software (AutoCAD).
  • Familiarity with quality at the source and design for manufacturing/assembly methodologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team setting.
