Job Title: WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as a WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor. As a key member of our Community Teamwork Inc team, you will play a vital role in supporting pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in our WIC program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers, including informing them about the benefits of breastfeeding, overcoming common barriers, and getting a good start with breastfeeding.
  • Attend breastfeeding training classes to become a peer counselor and receive a caseload of WIC clients.
  • Make routine periodic contacts with all clients assigned and provide follow through with each client.

Requirements:

  • Has breastfed at least one baby within the last 5 years.
  • Bilingual Spanish or Portuguese required.
  • Previous or current enrollment in the WIC program.
  • Enthusiastic about breastfeeding and wants to help other participants enjoy a positive experience.
  • Willing to make phone calls from home on agency-issued cell phone.
  • Has reliable transportation.
  • Has good customer service skills, relating to people of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds, and communicating in a professional, courteous, and tactful manner.
  • Able to remain calm and exercise judgment in unusual or stressful situation.
