Role Overview

The Registered Nurse is tasked with delivering professional nursing care tailored to the unique needs of our patient population, adhering to the guidelines set forth by the Illinois Nurse Practice Act. This role involves managing daily office operations and collaborating with the patient care team to ensure seamless coordination of care across various healthcare settings, including clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, and home care agencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct nursing assessments and document findings in the medical records.
  • Gather essential medical information, including vital signs and diagnostic results, in preparation for physician evaluations.
  • Act as a patient advocate, safeguarding patient rights and addressing service-related concerns.
  • Assess the need for referrals to external agencies or healthcare providers.
  • Screen patient inquiries, providing advice or referrals as necessary.
  • Deliver educational programs focused on health maintenance and disease prevention, documenting outcomes accordingly.
  • Provide home care instructions for various procedures and medications.
  • Offer pre and postoperative guidance for specific medical procedures.
  • Document patient education efforts in the medical records.
  • Administer respiratory treatments and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Perform irrigation procedures and document results appropriately.
  • Collect specimens and ensure proper coding.
  • Apply and remove casts, providing patient education and documentation.
  • Execute procedures such as catheterization and dressing changes, adhering to infection control policies.
  • Administer medications through all routes, excluding chemotherapy unless certified.
  • Assist physicians during examinations and treatments, ensuring compliance with infection control standards.
  • Orient new staff members to the specialty area.
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to patients and their families.
  • Participate in emergency response teams and provide staff education.
  • Serve as a resource for nursing staff throughout the clinic.
  • May function as a Health Care Assistant as per hospital policy.
  • Coordinate nursing care by liaising with all relevant departments and agencies.
  • Exhibit professionalism by adhering to performance standards, including dress code.
  • Ensure confidentiality for both patients and staff.
  • Maintain professional knowledge through continuous education and literature review.
  • Conduct pre-certifications and referrals for insurance as needed.
  • Schedule necessary procedures and surgeries.
  • Comply with incident reporting policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to all relevant training and policy requirements.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and uphold the clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduated as a registered nurse with an ADN, diploma, or equivalent.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
  • CPR certification in accordance with American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire.

Skills and Competencies

  • Demonstrates independent nursing practice in line with the Illinois Nurse Practice Act.
