Clinical Coding Auditor Specialist

Position Overview:
Accountable for ensuring adherence to coding standards through comprehensive auditing, educational initiatives, and oversight of clinic coding personnel. Conducts thorough evaluations of provider documentation and code selection processes. Acts as a mentor and coach for coding professionals. Facilitates training sessions and participates as a member of the Clinic Support Services Department Leadership Team and the Clinic Compliance and Integrity Team.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Perform quality audits and assessments of coding completed by clinic coders. Generate reports and corrective action plans in collaboration with Coding Leads and Management.
2. Communicate discrepancies and corrective measures in a constructive and professional manner.
3. Analyze provider coding trends using tools such as Histograms to identify areas needing improvement. Develop strategies that may involve direct collaboration with providers or on-site coders to rectify deficiencies.
4. Evaluate the effectiveness of educational initiatives by monitoring changes in documentation or coding practices. Seek support from management and clinic leaders when challenges arise.
5. Through the auditing process, assess coder competencies and pinpoint opportunities for further education and training. Arrange necessary training sessions as needed.
6. Travel to various clinics to provide educational support to coding staff, clinic personnel, and healthcare providers.
Assist Coding Leads in resolving issues related to claims errors stemming from incorrect coding, offering feedback for resolution and follow-up.
Work Schedule:
Full-time - Monday to Friday / No Weekends / No Holidays
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Completion of college coursework in coding, anatomy and physiology, and medical terminology is preferred.
Current coding certification is required (or willingness to obtain within two years): Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist - Physician Based (CCS-P), Certified Professional Coder (CPC). Other credentials may be considered.
Minimum of three years of coding experience.
