Position Title: Speech Language Pathologist

Overview of Responsibilities

This position description outlines the general nature and level of work performed by employees in this role. Reporting Structure

Reports to: Rehabilitation Director

Core Purpose

The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for delivering high-quality resident care to help residents achieve and maintain their highest level of functional ability while fostering positive interactions within the facility.

Qualifications

Must be a graduate of an accredited SLP program, possess CCC or be in CFY, and be eligible for licensure.

Previous experience in long-term care is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

· Collaborate with the Rehabilitation Director to evaluate, develop, organize, and implement resident care programs utilizing selected speech therapy procedures in both individual and group settings.

· Manage a caseload by identifying residents through a screening process and scheduling treatments, either individually or in groups, while meeting productivity expectations.

· Educate residents, families, and caregivers on speech therapy techniques to be continued after discharge.

· Ensure compliance with PPS guidelines, maintaining that all speech therapy documentation and treatment adhere to billing policies and procedures.

· Provide oversight and direction to therapy technicians and assist in the supervision and education of affiliated students.

· Ensure that the physical environment and equipment are clean, organized, and free from safety hazards.

· Adhere to ethical, regulatory, procedural, and professional standards and practice guidelines.

Commitment to Residents' Rights

· Maintain resident confidentiality and privacy, fostering self-worth and respect by treating residents with kindness and understanding.

· Understand and comply with the Residents' Bill of Rights, reporting grievances and complaints to the administrator and/or Director of Nursing promptly.

· Report any incidents involving rehabilitation staff to the Regional Vice President immediately.

Physical Requirements

Must possess good physical and mental health. The role involves some lifting, fine hand-eye coordination, and good hearing acuity. Visual and auditory acuity is necessary to detect changes in residents' conditions and respond to alerts. Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, staff, medical personnel, regulatory agencies, and consultants is essential.

Additional Responsibilities

· Maintain professional competence and stay updated on innovative trends in speech therapy through participation in continuing education, seminars, and training programs.

· Attend all mandatory in-service training sessions.
