Speech-Language Pathologist Job Description
Elderwood is seeking a skilled Speech-Language Pathologist to join our team. As a Speech-Language Pathologist, you will be responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of our residents by making recommendations for speech-language therapy treatment plans and carrying out treatments as planned.
Responsibilities:
- Screen residents for communication problems and conduct in-depth evaluations to make written recommendations for therapy plans.
- Coordinate audiometric screening tests and make referrals for further audiology evaluations or treatments as needed.
- Initiate speech-language therapy plans according to physician orders and maintain required contact with physicians during therapy programs.
- Observe residents' rights and treat them with respect and kindness.
- Maintain written evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries for all residents in speech-language treatment programs.
- Confer with other staff regarding special needs of residents and integrate speech-language treatment programs with goals and approaches of other disciplines.
- Attend Resident Care Planning and Family/Resident Care Plan Review meetings for residents currently in speech-language treatment programs.
- Maintain records that include statistical reports about residents, in-service education information, budget information, and material/equipment inventory.
- Submit statistical reports to the Business Office staff for Medicare billing payments and complete assessment forms as requested.
- Attend staff meetings and required or preferred in-service training.
- Participate in developing and conducting in-service training programs for facility personnel involved in resident care.
- Review written speech-language policies and procedures annually and make necessary revisions.
- Maintain costs of programs within the parameters of annual budgets.
Qualifications:
- M.A. or M.S. Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an approved school required.
- State license to practice as a Speech-Language Pathologist required.
- Clinical Competence Certification from the American Speech and Hearing Association preferred.
- Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing required.
- Current, valid CPR/BLS credential.
- Qualities of maturity, diplomacy, and ability to work well with others required.
- Verification of qualifications by the State Department of Health Rehabilitation Therapies (license number/certification number) required.
- Ability to perform tasks to established standards of excellence required.
