Position Overview
The Cloud Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, creation, configuration, and delivery of cloud infrastructure environments tailored for diverse applications within the BCBSA framework. This role encompasses all technological dimensions associated with the cloud computing technology stack, including architecture, security, design, planning, management, maintenance, and support.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement cloud infrastructure environments adhering to best practices for various systems, including databases, web services, and messaging systems.
- Translate project requirements from architectural diagrams into actionable insights to identify and address design deficiencies.
- Conduct thorough evaluations of architecture, network, security, and environmental designs to ensure continuous improvement.
- Maintain ongoing communication with management and technical teams regarding cloud adoption and usage.
- Establish strategic partnerships with key technology vendors to influence future product enhancements.
Research and Analysis
Stay abreast of cloud technology trends and best practices. Regularly assess the evolving business needs of BCBSA and modify enterprise technology strategies accordingly. Analyze the interaction between business processes and technology to maximize value creation.
Security and Compliance
Possess a comprehensive understanding of cloud security fundamentals, including encryption, key management, and identity management. Continuously assess new cloud infrastructure threats and develop effective security solutions that align with business operations.
Documentation and Collaboration
Document cloud design guidelines for new applications and the migration of existing systems to a cloud model. Collaborate with enterprise architects to refine application design principles for cloud alignment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field.
- Preferred: Master's Degree.
- Certification in a cloud platform (AWS preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in enterprise-level infrastructure consulting or implementation.
- Proficiency in automation tools such as Ansible and Powershell.
Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including VPN configuration.
- Familiarity with containerization and DevOps methodologies.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues end-to-end.
This role requires a collaborative approach, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal system performance and adherence to industry best practices.
