Position Overview
Our laboratory in Dayton, NJ is offering an internship for individuals interested in a Laboratory Assistant position. This role requires a commitment of 20 hours per week throughout the fall semester and is a paid internship opportunity.
Key Responsibilities
The Laboratory Assistant will be responsible for a variety of support functions for Lab Technicians and Analysts, ensuring high-quality results by adhering to SGS' Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The successful candidate will work both independently and collaboratively to complete all assigned tasks promptly. Safe laboratory practices and maintaining a secure working environment are paramount.
Specific Duties Include:
- Managing supply inventory from the supply room.
- Ensuring sufficient levels of accessories, consumables, and chemicals in each laboratory to optimize workflow.
- Properly disposing of samples after the designated retention period.
- Documenting in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and disposing of expired or depleted chemicals.
- Preparing non-treated in-house media.
- Cleaning and decontaminating laboratory glassware and equipment in accordance with SOPs.
- Performing administrative tasks as required.
- Adhering to internal standards, policies, and procedures.
- Carrying out additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma (Required)
- 1-2 years of general work experience (Preferred)
- Proficient English language skills (Required)
- Basic reasoning and mathematical skills (Required)
- Basic computer skills (Required)
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull weights of up to 25 lbs frequently (Required)
