POSITION SUMMARY:
The role involves preparing and staging jobs for presses or laminators. Personnel in prepress are engaged in various tasks necessary for job staging at any machine.
This includes retrieving and preparing cylinders for press operations, as well as cleaning and storing them post-production.
All tasks must be executed safely, effectively, and efficiently, in compliance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential duties include, but are not limited to:
- Actively engaging in the SPOT Safety Program and adhering to all safety protocols to support APC's goal of achieving a zero-accident rate.
- Serving as a Subject Matter Expert in the development and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures and training documentation.
- Reviewing and comprehending each job's Job Jacket, Print Specification, and Manufacturing Specification prior to commencing work.
- Accessing the daily production schedule to identify job priorities, quantities, and other relevant information.
- Identifying, reporting, and resolving any issues related to missing or substandard machine components.
- Utilizing an automated storage system for the retrieval and return of cylinders and aniloxes.
- Assembling and transporting print cylinders and aniloxes between the printing press and prepress departments.
- Installing gears, journals, pans, applicator pipes, end shields, splash guards, and cylinders into carriage units on the assembly table.
- Returning units to prepress, disassembling parts, cleaning cylinders, and storing them appropriately after job completion.
- Assisting with press setups as required and performing general housekeeping duties.
- Completing necessary reports and paperwork using a computer terminal.
- Carrying out scheduled cleaning tasks, which may vary in frequency.
- Obtaining Power Industrial Truck licenses and completing PSM training to perform all washroom-related tasks.
- Communicating effectively with colleagues across all shifts.
- Participating in all company-mandated meetings.
- Undertaking any additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- High school diploma or GED, with one to three months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and communicate effectively with groups.
- Basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, as well as the ability to compute rates and interpret graphs.
- Capability to apply common sense in executing detailed instructions and resolving problems with concrete variables.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical requirements for this position include:
- Regularly standing, using hands for handling tasks, and effective communication.
- Frequently reaching with hands and arms, and occasionally walking.
- Lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics include:
- Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and hazardous chemicals.
- Moderate noise levels typical of a manufacturing environment.
