This position demands a blend of cloud proficiency, web development capabilities, and a robust understanding of IT infrastructure. You will be tasked with planning and engineering the cloud computing infrastructure and applications for our clients.

Your responsibilities will include designing and implementing server, network, and software configurations for a cloud computing environment, adhering to DevOps principles.

You will also monitor system performance.

Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in cloud technology, including Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) is essential.

The Cloud Computing Solutions Specialist should possess web application development experience and will aid in the design and implementation of top-tier cloud services across major cloud service providers, including AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Microsoft Azure.

This role is technical and customer-facing, responsible for ensuring a seamless end-to-end customer experience.


The role specifically requires the Cloud Computing Solutions Specialist to collaborate within an agile product development team to build and support high-performance computing models within the OAR Cloud.

You will work closely with internal teams and stakeholders to configure environments, manage permissions/policies, establish networking, ensure security, and maintain documentation for OAR Cloud workloads.


Key Responsibilities:
Building, testing, deploying, and supporting IT infrastructure in Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.

Possessing a working knowledge of parallel computing in cloud environments, with familiarity in schedulers such as Slurm being advantageous.


Responding to service requests related to existing high-performance cloud computing applications that may not be functioning optimally, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and operational requirements.


Maintaining cloud service platforms (AWS and Azure) by regularly updating system documentation and adapting to evolving technology landscapes and regulatory changes, such as implementing secure MFA across all services.

Developing solutions utilizing Infrastructure as Code methodology (AWS Cloud Formation Templates and Azure ARM Templates) to meet system specifications.

Managing source code using NOAA-approved source control tools (GitHub Enterprise)

Ensuring that documentation adheres to the OAR Change Control process and incorporates feedback from IT Security

Addressing Enterprise Architect concerns prior to deploying solutions into production.

Responsible for configuring supporting services for HPC services, including AWS Cognito Permissions and Azure Active Directory Permissions. Collaborating with other teams to ensure connectivity, security, and compliance.

Utilizing Infrastructure as Code (IaC), open-source, and/or NOAA-approved tools and resources.

Examples of publicly available documents describing workloads that run in the cloud from OAR internal customers (NOAA Air Resources Laboratory and NOAA Earth Prediction Innovation Center - EPIC) are available for reference.

Agile Requirements

Responsible for active participation in an agile team.


Due to the dynamic nature of the workload, you will be expected to engage in additional cloud development and analysis activities in support of the mission.

Examples may include participating in UAT/Testing phases, drafting documentation, taking meeting notes/minutes, and researching technical issues.

Education Requirements:
BS/BA degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Experience:
6+ years of professional experience

Web application development experience

Proven experience as a Cloud Engineer or in a similar role

Experience with Azure, AWS, and GCP; certifications preferred

Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills

Excellent communication and collaboration abilities

Client management skills for discussing systems as needed

Relevant training and/or certifications as a Cloud Engineer


Extensive experience in architecting and provisioning enterprise-level Cloud services, including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS.

Experience in migrating on-premise workloads to public or hybrid cloud environments and deploying cloud-ready applications.

Ability to obtain a security clearance.

Preferred Certifications:
AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate; Microsoft Azure Architect Technologies; Architect with

Google Cloud Platform:
Infrastructure; Azure or GCP
