Role Summary:

Under general supervision, the Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for planning, evaluating, and implementing treatment programs for patients requiring speech therapy. Additional responsibilities may include program development, clinical coordination of students, scheduling support staff, and overseeing continuing education requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct independent clinical practice, including patient evaluations (initial, progress, and discharge), establishing treatment plans, making recommendations, and setting goals based on patient needs and evidence-based practices.
  • Engage patients and families in treatment, education, and goal-setting, while coordinating with other medical professionals regarding patient progress and discharge planning.
  • Serve as a resource for staff, providing education and mentorship, including:
    • Peer counseling and mentorship
    • Community lectures and volunteer work
    • In-service training and case studies
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of care standards and evidence-based practices, including:
    • Protocols based on evidence
    • Analysis of clinical outcomes and communication with the team
    • Policy development and quality improvement initiatives
  • Maintain and update patient documentation in compliance with professional and organizational guidelines, ensuring adherence to chart audit standards.
  • Achieve established targets for quality measures, patient satisfaction, financial productivity, and patient growth.
  • Demonstrate leadership by:
    • Participating in the development and implementation of new programs
    • Training and supervising support staff
    • Orienting new licensed staff
    • Acting as a Clinical Instructor for students
    • Engaging in peer evaluations for competency assessment
    • Assisting with continuing education courses
    • Participating in professional organizations and meetings
    • Volunteering for community health activities
  • Adhere to policies, procedures, and safety standards, completing required education assignments annually and participating in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: Must meet the standards for the required license and/or certification.

Experience: Minimum of two years of experience, with at least one year in the specialty area. Membership in a professional organization is preferred.

Licensure: Current Tennessee Speech Pathology license and CPR certification required.
