Position Overview:
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Medical Cardiology unit is responsible for assessing, coordinating, planning, directing, implementing, and managing the care of assigned patients throughout their treatment journey. This role emphasizes progress toward discharge and effective transitions during the acute care stay. The RN ensures that patient care is delivered competently and compassionately by the caregiving team, maintaining high standards for all stakeholders, including patients, hospital staff, and referring facilities.
Unit Description:
The Medical Cardiology unit comprises 29 beds, featuring 1 private room, 13 semi-private rooms, and one 4-bedroom suite. Patients are admitted from various sources, including the Emergency Department and Cardiac Catheterization Lab. The unit serves a diverse patient population, including both acute and chronically ill individuals with various cardiac and medical conditions. Most patients require telemetry monitoring following minimally invasive and invasive cardiac procedures, spanning from young adults to geriatric patients.
Key Responsibilities:
• Execute physician orders, administer medications, initiate IVs, perform treatments, and document care in accordance with company policies and regulations.
• Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to assess patient conditions.
• Evaluate patient needs and responses to care provided.
• Utilize sound nursing judgment in managing patient care decisions.
• Provide primary and emergency care for both occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses.
• Administer medications as prescribed, both over-the-counter and prescription.
• Collaborate with the nursing team to develop comprehensive Plans of Care for all patients.
• Supervise and guide ancillary personnel while upholding professional nursing standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program, holding a Diploma, Associate Degree, or Baccalaureate Degree.
• Current NYS Registered Nurse license is required.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is mandatory.
• Previous experience as a Patient Care Assistant or similar role is preferred.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development through continuing education.
• Knowledge of quality improvement concepts and the ability to apply them in patient care settings.
