Refrigeration Manager Job Description

Overview:

National Beef is seeking a qualified Refrigeration Manager to join our team at our Liberal, Kansas facility. As a Refrigeration Manager, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of our large-scale ammonia refrigeration system, boiler/steam generation system, and plant utilities network.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the operation and maintenance of the ammonia refrigeration system, boiler/steam generation system, and plant utilities network.
  • Supervise a team of 18 employees and manage a repair and maintenance budget.
  • Lead and manage significant capital reinvestment in refrigeration and boiler systems.
  • Ensure a safe work environment for all employees and prioritize safety in the department.
  • Maintain low employee turnover and provide proper training, documentation, support, and follow-up communication with end users.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of experience working with ammonia refrigeration systems.
  • 5-10 years of experience working with boilers and related equipment.
  • Knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Planning (RMP) programs and compliance.
  • Experience managing supervisory and hourly staff.
  • Ability to teach, train, and develop departmental staff.
  • Experience with maintenance planning and scheduling systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical aspects of refrigeration and boiler systems.
  • Ability to lead a team of plant technicians and contractors to achieve timely installation of new projects.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Must be willing to be on call 24/7.

Additional Skills:

  • Experience in the Meat packing industry.
  • Formal ammonia refrigeration training and certifications.
  • Experience with Reverse Osmosis water treatment systems.
  • Familiar with Boiler and Cooling Tower chemical treatment programs.
  • HAZWoper training and field experience.
  • Familiar with IIAR bulletins and publications regarding ammonia refrigeration systems.
  • Experience working with Corporate/Plant personnel in the design, development, and implementation of new refrigeration and boiler projects.
  • Ability to develop scopes of work.
  • Ability to develop project budgets.
  • Ability to develop project schedules.
  • Ability to identify energy usage and efficiency within the refrigeration and boiler areas.
  • Ability to develop capital funding requests.
