Job Summary:

As an Emergency Room Technician at Advocate Health, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced emergency department environment. We are seeking a skilled and compassionate individual to join our team as a Patient Care Specialist.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct patient care as directed by nursing or medical staff, documenting all interactions in the medical record.
  • Ensure an adequate supply of equipment needed for patient care and maintain a clean and organized patient care area.
  • Assist with clerical functions, such as telephone and order entry, and provide backup support for clerical associates and greeters during breaks and meals.
  • Transport patients and equipment interdepartmentally, promoting a safe and efficient workflow.
  • Collaborate with nurses and physicians to maintain waiting room safety and ensure vital signs are up to date.

Accountabilities:
  • Perform patient care as directed by nursing or medical staff, documenting on the medical record.
  • Achieve and maintain patient care competencies as determined by Emergency Department management.
  • Ensure patient safety by reporting incidents and near misses in a timely manner and adhering to all behavioral and procedural patient safety practices.
  • Promote a culture of safety by identifying threats to patient safety and intervening to prevent harm.
  • Communicate openly and promote teamwork to ensure seamless patient care.

Requirements:
  • Certified as CNA, EMT, paramedic, or ERT with 2-3 years of hospital or pre-hospital patient care experience or acceptance at an accredited medical school or completion of 2-3 years of nursing school clinical rotations or completion of a certified medical assisting program.
  • Ability to move, lift patients, and push carts, as well as use a keyboard and see a computer screen.
  • CNA, EMT, ERT, MA certification and current CPR certification.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance and use patient handling equipment when necessary.
