Key Responsibilities

This position is accountable for the operation and upkeep of RED's industrial water systems, boilers, compressed air, and steam distribution networks. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting regular inspections and performance evaluations of boiler, refrigeration, and water treatment systems, including meticulous documentation of operational metrics.
  • Supervising the effective functioning of the water treatment facility, boilers, turbines, and distribution systems alongside shift operations teams, ensuring adherence to established protocols.
  • Assisting with repairs on all equipment and distribution system piping as necessary.
  • Performing sampling and testing of chemical treatment systems, including the unloading of bulk chemicals.
  • Providing operational support during equipment shutdowns and startups, ensuring compliance with standard lockout/tagout (LO/TO) procedures.
  • Maintaining equipment cleanliness and operational readiness.
  • Contributing to the development and revision of standard operating procedures.
  • Carrying out maintenance tasks, including refrigerant handling, leak repairs, and pump packing adjustments.
  • Offering support for overhead distribution piping systems.
  • Completing additional duties as assigned, including administrative tasks and inspections.
Safety and Compliance

Adherence to all safety protocols and regulations is mandatory. This role operates on a rotating shift schedule, consisting of two days followed by two nights, with four days off. This is a non-exempt hourly position with potential for overtime. The estimated annual salary, factoring in shift work and overtime, ranges from $72,000 to $84,000, in addition to an annual incentive bonus target of 7%.

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • A high school diploma or GED, with a minimum of two years' experience in a lower-level operator or mechanic role, along with knowledge of refrigeration systems, cooling towers, water treatment plants, piping systems, and steam turbines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • The ability to learn various industrial software applications.
  • Strong communication skills and the capability to collaborate with all organizational levels.
  • A valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
Licenses and Certifications

RED-Rochester will assist selected candidates in obtaining necessary licenses and certifications, including:

  • City of Rochester S-3 Stationary Engineers License.
  • City of Rochester R-4 Refrigeration Operators License.
  • NYSDOH 2a Water Treatment Operator certification.
  • US-EPA Refrigerant Handling Universal License.
Work Environment

Work may be conducted under varying weather conditions, including extreme temperatures. Employees will be required to travel between different buildings and work in a plant environment with moderate noise levels, necessitating appropriate safety gear.

Physical Requirements

While performing job duties, employees may need to bend, walk, or carry equipment, and must occasionally lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds. A valid driver's license is required, along with a willingness to use a company or personal vehicle for travel within the operational area.
