Position Overview:
Tetra Tech is seeking a highly experienced Environmental Engineering Department Lead with a minimum of 15 years in environmental and remediation projects. This pivotal role is designed for a professional who excels in both project execution and client engagement, particularly within the Department of Defense sector.
Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will:
- Oversee and coordinate the efforts of multidisciplinary teams throughout the entire project lifecycle.
- Manage technical personnel, including responsibilities for hiring, budgeting, performance evaluations, and establishing departmental objectives.
- Handle project financials, ensuring comprehensive management of budgets, costs, and contingencies.
- Prepare and deliver project-level financial progress reports.
- Draft and monitor project scopes, schedules, and budgets as necessary.
- Identify and allocate resources effectively for project execution.
- Engage in technical tasks, including engineering design, drawing review, and quality assurance/control.
- Support clients in strategic planning and project prioritization.
- Facilitate regulatory relations and lead meetings while providing routine updates.
- Build and maintain relationships to ensure successful project delivery.
- Implement risk management procedures effectively.
- Prepare and present program progress reports to various stakeholders.
- Conduct value engineering assessments and project cost reviews.
- Monitor health and safety protocols and recommend necessary adjustments.
- Ensure adherence to quality assurance procedures and suggest improvements.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering or a related field.
- A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in the environmental consulting industry.
- A professional engineering license (e.g., PE).
- Familiarity with local and federal environmental regulations is preferred.
- Experience with CERCLA is advantageous.
- Experience in governmental projects is beneficial but not mandatory.
- Proven experience in preparing technical deliverables.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to balance direct and indirect utilization rates.
- 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and current 8-hour refresher training are preferred.
- Excellent technical writing and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency in delivering technical and business presentations.
- A successful track record in client engagement and relationship management.
- Strong skills in client retention and business development.
