Job Summary

The Department of Fish and Wildlife is seeking a highly skilled Fish and Wildlife Scientific Aid to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for assisting in the maintenance and operation of the Hills Ferry Barrier, as well as supporting the daily activities of the La Grange Field Office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the annual construction and removal of the Hills Ferry Barrier, including daily cleaning and monitoring.
  • Collect and record physical, environmental, biological, and observational data on datasheets.
  • Prepare and replace broken or missing parts of the Hills Ferry Barrier components.
  • Assist in data management activities for the HFB project.
  • Sort and stockpile dredger tailings and gravel on the Merced River Ranch.
  • Maintain and repair equipment on the MRR.
  • Operate the gravel sorter and track amounts of material processed.
  • Load gravel trucks with sorted material and track amounts of material loaded.
  • Perform daily maintenance and management tasks for the La Grange Field Office and Shop.
  • Maintain office buildings, water plant, equipment, vehicles, boats, and tools in good working condition.
  • Inventory shop and office supplies, clean and organize the shop, tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Conduct landscaping maintenance activities, including operating riding mowers, weed eaters, and leaf blowers.

Working Conditions

The incumbent will often work in or near water, walk on uneven and/or slippery, muddy terrain, under various weather conditions, and may lift and handle animal carcasses.

The incumbent will work in a mechanical shop setting, often in a loud environment, around shop equipment such as table saws, drill presses, metal lathes, iron workers, milling machines, and welding machines.

The incumbent will also work with and around heavy equipment, vehicles, boats, trailers, outboard motors, water pumps, and generators.

Requirements
