IT Systems Engineer III

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, maintain, and operate UIC's Information Technology Infrastructure.
• Manage backups, Storage Area Network (SAN), cloud environments, server administration, Windows and Linux operating systems management, and Active Directory management.
• Oversee the installation of all server hardware and software.
• Support the virtualization environment to include hardware refresh, software maintenance, and configuration.
• Maintain SAN environment to include capacity planning and ongoing maintenance.
• Ensure security, availability, and performance of the enterprise environment.
• Identity and authentication management related to Active Directory, Entra ID, and AD FS.
• Document IT procedures and follow best practice change management for IT systems configuration.
• Monitor backup systems; regularly test, verify restore capabilities, and perform routine maintenance.
• Plan, develop, and implement disaster recovery planning, events, and recovery of vital information.
• Administer and maintain MS SQL Server databases.
• Create batch scripts, VB scripts, and PowerShell scripts to perform automated tasks.
• Troubleshoot problems reported by users and follow up to ensure resolution.
• Work with vendor support contacts as needed to resolve technical issues.
• Oversee the build, configuration, and maintenance of laptops, PCs, servers, and other assets.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in a relevant STEM field of study with 4-7 years of related experience.
• In lieu of degree, 7+ years of commensurate experience will be considered.
• Windows Server Experience: Active Directory, DFS, WSUS, file services, AD FS.
• Microsoft Cloud Experience: Azure, M365, Entra ID, conditional access.
• Familiarity with SAN Storage: fiber channel, iSCSI protocol.
• Server configuration and deployment experience.
• Practical day-to-day experience with Veeam backup.
• Experience in a VMWare vSphere environment, spanning multiple geographic locations.
• Experience adhering to and applying company change management and policy.

Preferred Qualifications:

• VMWare VCP Certification is a huge plus.
• Scripting experience including PowerShell, Python, or related.
• CompTIA Security+ preferred.
• Relevant Microsoft Certifications.

Responsibility for Quality Procedures or Direct Product Quality:

• Adheres to Universal Quality System policies and procedures and uses Total Cycle Time principles and standard problem-solving tools to continuously improve work processes.

Target Annual Base Pay: $90,000 – $110,000 + Robust Benefits
