Oncology Research Nurse Coordinator (RN)

Day Shift (Hours: 8-4:30pm) No weekends or holidays

Location: Newark, DE

Shaker for ChristianaCare Direct is in search of a dedicated Research Nurse Coordinator with two years of experience in Oncology Clinical settings to join our Cancer Research Department.

In this pivotal role, the Research Nurse Coordinator will be responsible for screening, enrolling, planning, implementing, and evaluating protocol-related care for participants involved in various research initiatives. The position requires adherence to study-specific protocol guidelines and effective communication with investigators, hospital personnel, department managers, sponsoring organizations, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of clinical research activities.

  • Engage in regular communication with physicians, nursing staff, laboratories, pharmacy, medical records, social services, and other hospital personnel; liaise with sponsors and regulatory bodies regarding research and grant-related activities.
  • Accurately interpret and apply complex hematology/oncology/screening protocols for multiple patients across various studies.
  • Oversee all facets of protocol treatment and monitoring, ensuring thorough documentation and completion of all necessary tasks.
  • Carefully create and maintain comprehensive patient research records that include source documents supporting all reported data.
  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure patient adherence to protocol procedures, employing problem-solving techniques when non-compliance arises.
  • Act as a mentor and preceptor for new or less experienced research nurse coordinators, clinical research associates, and support staff.
  • Participate actively in assigned Multidisciplinary Clinics and Tumor conferences, pre-screening patients for eligibility in clinical trials and educating colleagues about specific trials.
  • Collect, document, and report medical data required by study protocols from a variety of sources, utilizing multiple data reporting systems.
  • Utilize various resources to interpret complex laboratory, pathology, and molecular testing results to assess study eligibility and outcomes.
  • Analyze radiology and other test results, reporting data in accordance with RECIST or other relevant criteria.
  • Develop new data collection forms as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the Principal Investigator to determine patient eligibility for specific trials and conduct ongoing informed consent processes.
  • Identify local and systemic issues that may hinder patient care and participate in the development and implementation of strategies to address these barriers.

Qualifications:

  • Active RN License or Compact Nursing License.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required or commitment to obtain BSN within three years of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Minimum of two years of oncology experience is mandatory.
  • Certification in oncology nursing is preferred.
