Job Overview

Position Summary: The Utility role serves as an introductory position within the Machining Department. This position aids personnel by executing general labor tasks in various capacities such as Helper, Rack Person, Hook-Up, and Loader, while providing necessary support to operators.

Key Responsibilities: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in setup procedures as directed by the operator.
  • Supporting operators in removing heaters following stoppages.
  • Repositioning items back onto the line at designated loaders.
  • Clearing trash containers in designated areas.
  • Assisting crane operators with hook-ups and resolving pit jams.
  • Guiding completed items from the conveyor to the storage rack.
  • Switching exit ends on the conveyor when storage racks reach capacity.
  • Ensuring all bundles are tagged with appropriate part and heat codes.
  • Organizing and maintaining wood materials within the facility.
  • Keeping all bins and floors clear of loose materials and debris.
  • Loading the coater and press racks as required.
  • Operating the pallet conveyor to ensure continuous workflow.
  • Loading cycle push buttons as necessary.
  • Monitoring heat changes and preventing mix-ups, alerting the operator or foreman as needed.
  • Confirming that materials have the appropriate acceptance tags before processing.
  • Identifying unsuitable materials for processing and notifying the operator.
  • Running sonic reject pieces during downtime and at job completion.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not include supervisory duties.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • One to three months of related experience or training is preferred.

Essential Skills:

Communication:

  • Ability to read and write basic instructions and correspondence.
  • Capable of effectively reporting data and job-specific information.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Understanding and performing intermediate mathematics, including proportions and geometry.
  • Ability to read measuring tools accurately.

Computer Proficiency:

  • Comfortable using digital tools and calibration systems.
  • Familiarity with digital platforms, emails, and timekeeping systems.
  • Experience with Plex software is advantageous but not mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to train on and/or operate a crane.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent use of hands for handling and inspecting equipment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, push, pull, squat, bend, and reach during shifts.
  • Use of carts and jacks for material transport as needed.
  • Climbing ladders and stairs to access work areas.
  • Ability to navigate confined spaces and overhead areas.
  • Tolerance for temperature fluctuations and high noise levels.
  • Adherence to all PPE guidelines, including protective gear.
  • Capability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment:

The Utility position involves working across various departments and interacting with heavy machinery, often in close proximity to heat, noise, and other potential hazards. The role may include exposure to confined spaces, moving parts, and chemicals. Candidates should be prepared for a dynamic environment with high levels of material transportation and associated disturbances.
