Job Overview

We are looking for a committed Survey Crew Chief who possesses the skills to operate total station instruments, GPS rovers, and levels, as well as the ability to read a level rod accurately. The ideal candidate will be proficient in performing basic field calculations, clearing and preparing survey lines with hand tools, and ensuring the maintenance of a tidy work vehicle. Furthermore, the candidate should follow essential safety protocols, take guidance from Project Managers, coordinate tasks effectively, and lead a team of one or more individuals on a survey crew.
Essential Skills
  • At least 3 years of experience in land surveying, including preparation of survey documents and crew management.
  • Experience in conducting Boundary, topographic, wetland, ALTA surveys, and construction staking.
  • Capability to produce plats, drawings, as-built surveys, tree and topographic surveys, and exhibits using AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with Trimble survey equipment.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with field crews, engineers, and project managers.
Interpersonal Skills
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Effective coordination of tasks.
  • Leadership and supervisory abilities.
Work Environment

The successful candidate will gather field survey data for various types of surveys, including boundary and topographic surveys, ALTA surveys, wetland and tree location surveys, and construction layout tasks. The work environment may involve traversing long distances through woods, wetlands, and marsh areas, where encounters with wildlife such as bees, hornets, snakes, and other outdoor elements may occur. The typical work schedule runs from Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturdays, and normal hours are from 6 am to 3 pm, totaling 40-50 hours per week. The candidate will report to the Survey Manager, who will assign crews and tasks. The candidate will lead a team of 1-2 survey crew members.
