This is an exciting opportunity to join the VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION team as a Staff Psychologist. As a key member of our Mental Health Service, you will provide high-quality psychological services to our patients, including diagnostic evaluation, counseling, and consultation.
About the Role
The Staff Psychologist will work in the outpatient Mental Health/Women's Clinic, providing a full range of therapeutic, diagnostic, and training activities. A focus of this position will be to provide psychology interventions to female veteran patients with mental health issues complicating their emotional and physical health.
Responsibilities
The Staff Psychologist will be responsible for providing psychological services to female Veterans in the Mental Health Clinic (MHC). Specific psychological services that will be provided include (but are not limited to) the following:
- The incumbent will provide diagnostic evaluation, counseling/psychotherapy, and consultation within the MHC, with a focus on providing evidence-based intervention, including evidence-based psychotherapies.
- The incumbent will be able to provide psychological testing and assessment services within MHC, with the ability to provide consultation related to assessment to other providers, patients, and families as indicated.
- The psychologist will serve as a member of the women's multidisciplinary team (BHIP) providing psychological services to Veterans who also understand psychological impacts of serving during prolonged wars. The incumbent also serves as consultant to other medical units, psychologists, psychiatrists, neurologists, nurses, social workers, etc. in the area of behavioral and mental health.
- Services may be provided on an inpatient and outpatient basis with individual, family, and/or group format.
- A particular emphasis of this position involves providing psychological interventions in the area of psychology, with exposure to (but not limited to) PTSD, insomnia and other sleep disorders, depressive disorders, serious mental illness, anxiety disorders, neurocognitive disorders, etc. He/she also has understanding of military culture while providing care to Veterans who present to MHC.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS), or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA). The incumbent must be licensed to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
