Position Summary:
BHSI is seeking a knowledgeable Property Underwriter to join our San Francisco office. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including the development of business within distribution channels, prequalifying accounts, and employing underwriting expertise to assess property risks aligned with the company's risk appetite. The successful candidate will also be instrumental in expanding and cultivating new business opportunities through proactive engagement with brokers and clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and enhance the property insurance portfolio, covering both primary and excess layers.
- Establish, nurture, and expand relationships with brokers and clients.
- Identify and prequalify potential new business opportunities.
- Operate effectively in a dynamic environment, managing multiple tasks and making prompt decisions while upholding underwriting standards.
- Underwrite Fire and CAT exposures.
Qualifications and Skills:
- 3-5 years of experience in property insurance.
- Established relationships with brokers, particularly within the retail brokerage sector.
- Strong underwriting skills and acumen.
- Familiarity with policy forms, including broker manuscripts.
- Demonstrated experience in managing customer relationships.
- Solid understanding of CAT peril modeling and pricing.
- Excellent collaboration and team-building abilities.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- Strong communication skills, including negotiation and presentation capabilities.
