About the Role

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is seeking a highly skilled Orthoptist to join our team. As an Orthoptist, you will play a critical role in the management of ophthalmic patients, including those with strabismus and amblyopia. Your expertise will be essential in providing high-quality care and contributing to the advancement of pediatric ophthalmology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist pediatric ophthalmology staff with clinical evaluations, including medical and ophthalmic history-taking, vision and sensory testing, and strabismus measurements.
  • Escorting patients to and from waiting areas and exam areas, administering medicated eye drops for cycloplegia, and retinoscopic and manifest refraction.
  • Documenting findings concisely and accurately in the electronic health record and consulting with physicians as needed.
  • Coordinating the timing and sequence of examinations and scheduling additional tests to facilitate patient flow and care.
  • Independently staffing and operating an Orthoptics Clinic for the management of amblyopia, diplopia, convergence insufficiency, and other orthoptic patients.
  • Teaching ophthalmic technicians, medical students, ophthalmology residents, and pediatric ophthalmology fellows in ophthalmology clinics.
  • Participating in departmental research activities and presenting at continuing education offerings for orthoptists, nurses, and technicians.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Prior experience in an ophthalmology clinic Required
  • Orthoptic Certification - American Orthoptic Council - within 12 months - Required
