Role Summary:
The Respiratory Therapy Equipment Specialist is responsible for the maintenance, cleaning, and assembly of respiratory equipment within the designated Hackensack Meridian Health facilities. This role includes managing inventory, ordering supplies, and servicing the central gas systems.

Key Responsibilities:
A typical day for a Respiratory Therapy Equipment Specialist includes:

  1. Exhibiting expertise in the operation of respiratory therapy equipment and necessary supplies for procedures.
  2. Ensuring proper care, cleaning, and storage of respiratory therapy equipment and supplies.
  3. Managing and securing stock medications effectively.
  4. Accurately documenting all relevant data and findings, including equipment logs and service reports.
  5. Maintaining appropriate levels of respiratory therapy supplies and placing orders with supervisor approval.
  6. Organizing and managing the stock of supplies to ensure efficiency.
  7. Receiving and storing medical gases in accordance with site protocols.
  8. Conducting and documenting oxygen safety rounds as assigned.
  9. Managing the changing of cylinders on medical gas manifolds.
  10. Overseeing stock medication inventory and servicing remote medication carts as needed.
  11. Identifying and evaluating equipment conditions to ensure safety for patients and staff.
  12. Upholding infection control standards throughout the department.
  13. Maintaining the safety and security of cylinder inventories and medical gas supply systems.
  14. Responding appropriately to medical gas supply system alarms.
  15. Ensuring equipment is always ready for use.
  16. Coordinating equipment rentals with supervisor approval to prevent shortages.
  17. Communicating effectively with the patient care team, including nursing and pharmacy staff.
  18. Facilitating communication between equipment technicians and clinical staff.
  19. Providing on-call support as necessary.
  20. Performing additional duties and projects as assigned.
  21. Adhering to organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
  22. Meeting physical demands, including lifting a minimum of 10 lbs., pushing and pulling at least 5 lbs., and standing for a minimum of 6 hours daily.

Qualifications:
Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.

Preferred:

  • One year of experience as a Respiratory Therapy Equipment Technician.
  • Familiarity with high-pressure oxygen cylinders and electrical devices.

Licenses and Certifications:
Preferred:

  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider (HCP) Certification.
