Job Summary and QualificationsFloat pool nurses occupy a unique position to effect change. Transitioning between assignments, they support various departments within the hospital. They possess advanced critical thinking abilities, extensive clinical knowledge, and the capacity to remain composed under pressure.
About this unit:
- Strong communication and collaboration among all hospital staff.

Key Responsibilities:
- Under the guidance of the Director, Manager, or Nurse Manager, the Registered Nurse (RN) coordinates and delivers patient care while taking individual responsibility and accountability for nursing services.
- The Registered Nurse (RN) ensures that nursing care is delivered in accordance with hospital policies, state Nursing Practice Acts, ANA Standards of Practice, and unit-specific standards.
Qualifications:
- BSN preferred.
- Current RN licensure in the state of Missouri is required. If only a multistate RN license is provided upon hire, a Missouri RN license must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
- BLS certification is required at hire and must be maintained.
- ACLS certification is required within six months.
- NIH Stroke Scale certification is required within 90 days of hire and annually thereafter.
- Documentation of a minimum of eight (8) hours of cerebrovascular (stroke) related continuing nursing education is required each fiscal year.
- Credentialing in trauma care (TNCC) must be completed within six months of assignment, with a minimum of eight (8) hours of trauma-related continuing nursing education documented annually.
- 1-2 years of prior experience is preferred.
- Experience in a facility of similar size and services is preferred.
- Previous experience in emergency, pre-hospital, or critical care settings is preferred.
