Job Summary

This position will provide support for CIVIC and SPARTA and BSL-2 laboratory activities at the University of Georgia. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing cell culture, media supernatant harvesting, protein purification, western blots, protein quantification, ELISA, and maintaining B cell hybridomas and monoclonal antibody assessment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare culture media, reagents, buffers, and other solutions.
  • Support duties such as washing and autoclaving glassware, routine and preventative maintenance of lab equipment.
  • Lead technical aspects of research involving support BSL-2 laboratory activities and organizing BSL-2 schedules.
  • Order, stock, and inventory supplies as needed; maintain a clean and sterile lab environment; assist with administration duties such as package shipping and receiving, mail retrieval, answering phones, and processing visitors in lab.
Requirements
  • Technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills while carrying out instructions.
  • Maintain a high degree of confidentiality while providing consultation to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and calm demeanor throughout stressful situations.
  • Accept constructive criticism.
  • Basic computer knowledge in MSWord and Excel.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be required to lift and carry up to pounds, sit, stand, stoop, bend, and walk intermittently during the day on hard floor surfaces, work with small, delicate pieces of equipment or large heavy objects/containers/machinery, wear necessary protective gear, and work for long periods of time with arms extended.
